Today I want to share with you a recipe for a drink that is yummy, very easy to make and which has amazing benefits for out body: Turmeric Milk. I drink a cup once a day, sometimes twice. It is said that it helps with insomnia and recommended to be drunken before going to bed.
The main ingredient in this recipe is turmeric. Turmeric contains curcumin, the polyphenol identified as its primary active component and which exhibits over 150 potentially therapeutic activities, which include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
Additional benefits:
-Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antiseptic,analgesic,.
-Boosts immunity.
-Anti-carcinogenic.
-Helps maintain cholesterol levels.
-Promotes digestive health.
-Liver detoxifier.
-Regulates metabolism and weight management.
-High blood pressure.
-Memory and brain function.
-Various skin conditions.
-Neurological disorders.
-Lowers Triglycerides
Adding black pepper to turmeric or turmeric-spiced food enhances curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times, due to black pepper’s hot property called piperine. Yup by mixing turmeric and black pepper together, you increase your body’s absorption of the turmeric by 2000%!
And here comes the recipe:
1. First make the Turmeric Paste (lasts 2 weeks in the fridge)
½ cup of water - put in pan with medium/low setting
½ teaspoon of ground pepper
¼ cup of ground turmeric – add to the water
keep stirring 7-9 min (attention turmeric stains and likes to bubble out)
add more water when it evaporates to keep nice it nice and smooth
Tip: I love to just add a table spoon of the Turmeric Paste in a shot glass with water and drink a shot once or twice a day and in the evening, I drink a cup of Golden Turmeric Milk (before I go to bed, for good sleep).
Golden Turmeric Milk
½ to 1 (according to taste) teaspoon of Turmeric Paste – put in pan
2 cups of milk (Almond, Hemp, any milk … ) unsweetened - pour it into the pan
cook on medium/low heat for 4-5 minutes and let it cool down
¼ teaspoon of oil (coconut or Udo’s Oil)
Tip: Most of the time I make my Golden Turmeric Milk in my blender (Vitamix or Nutribullet): I add a teaspoon of Turmeric Paste to a cup of milk (Almond, Hemp, Ricemilk or any other), and add ½ teaspoon of good oils (coconut and/ or Udo's Oil) to the mix and mix it for 2 minutes.
