before setting up a session

Before signing up for your first sessions, let's talk and  find out what you would like to achieve by working with me. In this phone conversation, we can see, if I am a good fit for you and your goals. Once you have decided to work with me, you can sign up here for your sessions. The practice has shown that six to ten sessions is a good start to immerse yourself into The Work.
Once you have signed up, we both determine the dates of the sessions according to both our availability. I usually suggest to do one or two sessions per week.
If you have to change session dates, you would need to let me know by email at least 24 hours before the planned session.

how to prepare for the first session

You do not have to do anything to prepare yourself for the first session. Just come with an open mind. If you are aware of a stressful situation or a stressful thought, bring that to the session.

How does a Work session look like?

This is what we do in a typical Work session:

1. Determining a situation that brings stress into your life.
Example: I am standing in the kitchen with my husband Paul. Paul hides a cigarette he just smoked. I tell him that he has already had two heart attacks and that he really should not smoke.  He  pretends that he did not smoke and turns away.

2. Identifying the stressful thought that occurs out of this situation.
Example: Paul is not listening to me.

3. We now inquire the statement (the thought that brought stress into your life). The "technique" of "Doing The Work" consists of asking four questions and then finding the "Turnarounds" to the original statement.

Question 1: Is it true? (Example: Is it true that Paul is not listening to me?)
Question 2: Can I absolutely know that it is true?

Question 3: How do I react when I believe the thought?
Question 4: Who would I be without the thought?

Find the "Turnarounds".
In this step we take the original statement "Paul is not listening to me" and we turn it around.
The first Turnaround will be the Turnaround to the Self.
Using our example, the Turnaround will be: "I do not listen to myself". In a second step we now look to find three genuine examples where this Turnaround is or has been true.

Then we find as second Turnaround the Turnaround to the other. In the above example this would be "I do not listen to Paul". And again we are looking to find three genuine examples where this is true (that I do not listen to Paul).

The last Turnaround is the Turnaround to the opposite. In our example this would be "Paul DOES listen to me". And again we are looking for three genuine examples where it is true, that Paul is listening to me.

As a facilitator I support you in this process of inquiry by asking you the four question and holding the field so that you are safe and can relax into inquiry.

Why work with a facilitator?

You can always do The Work on your own. That's the beauty of it. You don't need anybody.

And yet...
Here is why I myself work with a facilitator:
It's not that I don't know the "technique" of how to do The Work. I work with a facilitator to be supported in my inquiry. It so much helps me when I am encouraged  to slow down so that I can get in contact with what I know deep inside, that which has been covered up for so many years, that place that my mind 'protects me from seeing'. Being in that process together with a facilitator allows me to trust, to relax. I feel supported and cared for and I can even go to places which feel scary to me and to which I would not like to go alone.

Have you ever experienced…
  • Your ego (mind) hiding or running away from the pain you are feeling in the moment?
  • Not even knowing where to start and how to identify what’s bothering you?
  • Feeling fearful when you think about letting go of your old stories (your identity)?

As your Certified Facilitator, I am familiar with this and I can support you in your process. Together we  will:
  1. Identify your stressful thoughts. Out of the thousand thoughts and feelings that come to your mind, we choose one stressful belief. We then become very specific, personal, and clear about the situation in which the belief occurred. We are staying with this though/belief, until it is "done" and only then move to the next one. This sounds normal and not spectacular. However the way our mind functions is similar to a monkey. It likes  to jump from branch to branch, never staying still. However, for effectively working a stressful belief, we have to pin down the mind. This is an important role of the facilitator, to help you stay with the chosen thought and to become aware when the mind wants to jump around.
  2. Finding the blind spots. Blind spots, also called  "the underworld". These are the thoughts that we are hiding from ourselves . Being a facilitator I have more distance to your "story" and with that it is much easier for me to see your blind spots.
  3. Finding underlying beliefs. Those beliefs, deep inside that hide under more superficial believes and feeling, those thoughts that are "root believes".For example, when someone does not answer my emails in what I call a 'timely manner', I might have the stressful thought "He should have answered my email by now". Now an underlying belief to that could be the belief that "I am not important to him". Within the facilitation, we will address those underlying beliefs.
